DNC chairwoman to RNC chairman-Strengthen your spine
by Nathan'ette Burdine: April 26, 2016

Debbie Wasserman-Schultz’s advice to Reince Priebus is to strengthen his spine and deal with the extreme factions that have taken over his party.

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) chairwoman spoke about her counterpart, the Republican National Committee (RNC) chairman, during an appearance this month on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show.”

Wasserman-Schultz told “The Daily Show’s” host Trevor Noah that she doesn’t believe the Republican front-runner and business mogul Donald Trump is the sole reason why the far Right is taking the Republican Party down prim row’s path.

Wasserman-Shultz said, “They say Donald Trump high jacked their party, no he didn’t. They succumb to Right Wing extremism and they are laying in the bed that they made for themselves because they cared more about power.”

The “they” the chairwoman is referring to, in relation to Trump, are Republicans like Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX). Cruz rode into Washington D.C. on the far right, Tea Party train.

He amassed such credits as shutting down the government, reading Green Eggs and Ham while filibustering the Budget Bill, to renouncing his Canadian citizenship so that he can run for the president of the United States.

Although Cruz’s antics have made him the most hated man in Congress, the Republican establishment’s hate for Trump is so toxic that they are tolerating their dislike for Cruz in order to trump Trump.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, who once said a person can kill Cruz and get away with it in the Senate, explained the dilemma the Republicans are facing.

During an appearance last month on “The Daily Show,” Graham told Noah that the one thing Cruz has going for him is that he is not Trump.

The Charlotte Observer quoted Graham as saying that he would vote for Cruz because “-he’s not Trump. If Donald Trump carries the banner of my party, I think it will taint conservatism for generations to come.”

Wasserman-Schultz is not buying the Republicans’ belief that they are the victims of the Donald.

The DNC chairwoman believes that the Republican Party made Trump and that he is a mere reflection of his makers.

Wasserman-Schultz told Noah, “And you’ll watch the chaos unfold on the other side where they are about to splinter into I don’t know how many parts because they have alienated and done everything they can to make people in this country feel unwelcome.

The vitriol and the bigotry and the nastiness, not only Donald Trump has engaged in, but they’ve all piled on to and promoted and gone out of their way to embrace.”

The haterade that some Republicans have dished out includes their support of a religious test for people coming into the country and Republican state legislatures trying to force women who were considering having an abortion to take invasive exams.

There’s also the 1965 Voting Rights Act, which Republicans have been attempting to roll back for over 40 years.

The problem the Republican Party faces is that the country’s demographics no longer looks like it did back in the 1960s.

And if the Republicans want a chance at getting in and holding onto the White House, then they must appeal to women and minority voters who will, by the year 2030, make-up a majority of the voting population.

The DNC chairwoman is confident that her party will hold onto the White House.

Wasserman-Schultz told Noah that the Republican Party’s anti-women, anti-immigrant, and anti-black rhetoric has Preibus wishing for a “magic pill” or “Harry Potter invisible cloak” to make his problems disappear.

She went on to say that due to the Democrats being united on the issues, the party will be able to come together and “expose” the Republicans as a party that only cares about power and not the voters they are elected to represent.
