Dick Cheney says President Obama is showing a lack of knowledge about the increasing threats against the U.S.

Dick Cheney told Hugh Hewitt of Real Clear Politics that President Obama’s comment that the Islamic State (IS), a sub-group of Al Qaeda, is the “jayvee team” of terrorist groups is evidence of President Obama’s “lack of knowledge” about IS and its increasing threat to the United States’ security.

Cheney’s comment was a response to an interview David Remnick of the New Yorker did with President Obama back in January.

During the interview, Remnick asked President Obama if Al Qaeda’s increased presence in Iraq and in some countries in Africa was a sign that the killing of Osama bin Laden didn’t “decimate” Al Qaeda.

President Obama responded that he didn’t believe the sub-Al Qaeda groups were on the same level as Al Qaeda was when Al Qaeda was under Osama bin Laden’s leadership.

President Obama told Remnick, “The analogy we use around here sometimes, and I think is accurate, is if a jayvee team puts on Lakers uniforms that doesn’t make them Kobe Bryant. I think there is a distinction between the capacity and reach of a bin Laden and a network that is actively planning major terrorist plots against the homeland versus jihadists who are engaged in various local power struggles and disputes, often sectarian.”

Hewitt asked Cheney if he believes that President Obama “gets it,” when it comes to foreign policy and national security.

Cheney told Hewitt that President Obama’s comment is a sign that he’s “not reading his intelligence” reports or the intelligence the president is receiving is not that good.
