John Kelly threaten to resign after James Comey was fired
CNN’s Pamela Brown told Wolf Blitzer that two sources revealed to her that General John Kelly threaten to resign from his position as the United States Secretary of Homeland Security after James Comey was fired.
Brown quoted the sources as saying, “Kelly was particularly upset by the way it all went down, by the way that Comey was treated when he learned he had been fired on the news rather than learning about it from the president… He even at one point said he was contemplating resigning from his position as secretary of homeland security in a showing of solidarity in the wake of Comey being fired.”
On May 9, 2017, Donald Trump sent his long time bodyguard, who has a position in the White House, to the FBI headquarters with a letter, informing James Comey of his firing.
Comey did not receive the letter during that time because he was several states away, on the West coast, giving a speech in California.
Comey said that he learned about his firing after he looked up at the television and saw the news reports about his firing.
The former FBI director said at first he thought it was a joke but soon realized that it wasn’t.
For their part, Trump and his crew bounced back ‘n’ forth over who actually fired Comey.
Initially, Donald Trump said that he fired James Comey because Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein advised him to do so.
But then, during an interview with NBC’s Lester Holt, Donald Trump said that he fired James Comey because of the Russian investigation.
Brown stated that her sources described Kelly as being “disgusted” with the manner in which Trump fired Comey to the point that he called the former FBI director, on the day he was fired, to express his frustrations over the entire ordeal.
It must be noted that Brown pointed out that Kelly and Comey’s relationship is professional and that the two have a mutual respect for each other.
Also, neither Kelly or Comey responded to Brown’s questions for comments on the story.
Since Comey’s firing, Kelly has moved up in the world. He has taken the position to replace former White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus.
Several Republicans are hoping that Kelly, who is a four star general, will be successful in using his military skills to bring discipline and order into a chaotic White House.
The first item on his to do list was to get rid of White House Communication Director Anthony “The Mooch” Scaramucci.
Scaramucci got himself in hot water after he decided to curse up a storm about Reince Priebus and Steve Bannon.
Kelly didn’t take too kindly to Scaramucci’s foul mouth so he gave him the boot. Donald Trump reportedly supports Kelly’s decision.
Yesterday during a press conference, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters that Donald Trump has given John Kelly full authority to run the White House staff as he sees fit.
However, it’s TBD how long Kelly’s tenure as the White House chief of staff will last.
As folks know, Trump doesn’t like anyone saying anything that can be perceived as painting him in a negative light.
And Pamela Brown’s report that General John Kelly was going to resign his position as the United States Secretary of Homeland Security paints Donald Trump in a bad light because it paints him, and not James Comey, as the problem.
