Will Smith wants you to know that Hollywood studio heads can no longer sell shitty movies

Will Smith wants you to know that social media has made it difficult for Hollywood studio heads to sell shitty movies.

During the Cannes Lions Festival, Smith commented that during a movie people will tweet and let you know if a movie is truly “shit.”

And as a result of people tweeting and letting you know how shitty a movie is, the days of blowing up buildings, running through traffic, and getting a good payday at the box office is over.

The Hollywood Reporter quoted Will Smith as saying, “Back in the ҆80s and ҆90s you had a piece of crap movie you put a trailer with a lot of explosions and it was Wednesday before people knew your movie was shit.”

For Smith, his “shit” movie was Wild Wild West. Wild Wild West was a big block buster hit which earned $222 million globally.

Smith expressed disappointment at what he sees as his decision to sacrifice his acting talents on Wild Wild West in exchange for a big pay day.

The Hollywood Reporter quoted him as saying, “I had so much success that I started to taste global blood and my focus shifted from my artistry to winning…what happened was there was a lag-around Wild Wild West time-I found myself promoting something because I wanted to win versus promoting something because I believed in it.”

The actor credits the late Muhammad Ali, who Smith played in the movie Ali, for enlightening him about his role as a human being within the larger world community and wanting to be more than just the “biggest movie star” in Hollywood.

Smith said about Ali, “He was unwilling to compromise for money, accolades. He was living his values rich or poor.”

Smith did say that he will respect his audience and will never, never ever “trick them into going to see” something as shitty as the Wild Wild West ever again.
