Winter Storm Jasper made the
South as cold as ever
by Nathan'ette Burdine: January 24, 2022

Winter Storm Jasper! Winter Storm Jasper! Mr. Winter Storm Jasper made the South as cold as ever! Everybody from Texas, Georgia, all the way up through the Carolinas to Virginia were chilling their bones in the 20s and 30s.

North Georgia was cooling its heels in the mid to upper 20s, the coastal area of South Carolina was an ice box frozen solid with temperatures in the low to mid 20s, while the southeastern part of Texas was sitting low in the 30s.

Who does the South have to thank for all of the bone chilling cold air that turned its sunny blue skies red?! Ms. Arctic air is who the South has to thank!

Ms. Arctic Air came blasting in with all of that cold that is needed for ice sickles, snow, and sleet to form. Snow on the magnolias is what southern folks’ eyes got to see from Thursday to Saturday.

Look at the snow on the magnolias! Isn’t that beautiful?!...Mm-hmm…

Snow on the Magnolias;

Now, with all of that beauty comes headaches. The headaches are caused by the fear of the ice sickles falling down from the roof and piercing an important organ like the heart, lung, or brain.

Then there’s the increase risk of slipping, falling, and breaking several bones after attempting to walk on all of that snow on the driveway. Black ice on the road kills.

The good news is that Ol’ Sunny Boy is moving enough of the molasses out of his core to push the temperatures to 50 degrees on up; which is needed to melt all of that snow and ice off the driveways and roads.

The bad news is the temperature doesn’t stay 50 degrees or greater throughout the day. The temperature goes up to 50 or greater and then it drops back down to the 20s; which means it’s going to take about 48 to 72 hours for Ol’ Sunny Boy to help us humans to clean up Winter Storm Jasper’s mess.

Therefore, several schools and businesses, throughout the hardest hit areas in Texas and Georgia and up through the Carolinas to Virginia, will be closed.

No walking, running, or driving below the Mason Dixie line for 48 to 72 hours.
